Cattle scratching brush

Description

This cattle scratching brush provides a safe, easy, economical way to let your cows have a good scratch.  Static cow scratching brushes:

• improve cows’ circulation and metabolism
• remove old hair and parasites
• reduce stress and help to keep cows contented.

The two strong, waterproof plastic-backed brushes are 50cm long. They are mounted on galvanised steel and attach easily to any vertical surface, indoors or outdoors. The sturdy spring allows the horizontal brush to move in all directions as the cow pushes against it.

Suitable for animals of different sizes, the static Texas cattle scratching brush provide an economical alternative to automatic cow brushes. They meet the requirements of Farm Assurance Schemes including Arla 360 contracts and are eligible for the Animal Health and Welfare grant FETF233A Static cow brush.

How many brushes do I need?

Recommendations range between 60 to 100 cows per brush. Check your assurance scheme for their specific requirements.

How to install the scratching brush

Install the brushes with sufficient clearance on both sides, avoiding entrance or exit areas and dead ends to prevent a cow stopping for a scratch causing a “cow-jam”.

The brushes have two mounting plates on the back of the vertical section.  Attach them to flat wood or concrete surfaces using appropriate screws, or bolt them to metal stanchions or well anchored gate posts. See the installation instructions for frame dimensions and more detailed instructions.

Cattle scratching brush mounting kit

You can buy the brush by itself or add a mounting kit which contains:

• 4 x 40mm M12 threaded bolts with washers and nuts for fixing the brush to metal stanchions. (You will need to pre-drill holes using an M12 metal drill bit)
• 4 x 80mm M12 steel anchor bolts for fixing the brush to concrete panels. (You will need to pre-drill holes using an M12 masonry drill bit)
